🍗🤖 From Chicken to Cinema: Goobne’s Surprise AI Film Triumph Goes Global! 🏆🎬

Hello Korea Fam, it’s Jiyoon Lee, your dedicated Hidden Gem Traveler and editor here at Hello Korea! We’re always on the hunt for the next big thing in K-culture, and today, we’ve unearthed a truly unexpected collaboration that’s shaking up the global film scene. Picture this: your favorite oven-roasted chicken brand, Goobne Chicken, joining forces with a prestigious art university to create an award-winning AI film. Sounds like something out of a futuristic drama, right? Well, it just happened!

The culinary powerhouse behind Goobne Chicken, G&Food, recently partnered with Hongik University for an industry-academia collaboration that has produced a globally recognized masterpiece. This isn’t just about corporate social responsibility (ESG); it’s a brilliant example of how fostering young talent can directly lead to groundbreaking creative achievements that resonate far beyond Korea’s borders. We’re talking about real impact!

The star of this innovative partnership is **Lee Yeon-jae**, a talented second-year student from Hongik University’s College of Fine Arts, Printmaking Department. Her generative AI short film, titled ‘Wings of Love’, began as a simple class project. It first premiered at the 1st AI Film Festival held at Goobne Playtown, Goobne Chicken’s unique brand space near Hongdae. What started as a student project quickly evolved with invaluable audience feedback and expert mentorship from professors and industry professionals.

And the results? Absolutely phenomenal! ‘Wings of Love’ achieved incredible success, including:

  • 🏆 Winning the Grand Prize for Best AI Film at the prestigious LA Film Awards (Festigious Los Angeles Film Awards).
  • 🏅 Being named a Finalist at the equally esteemed New York International Film Awards.

‘Wings of Love’ is a deeply moving piece that exquisitely revitalizes those small, often overlooked moments of love and comfort we encounter in our daily lives through delicate visual imagery. Interestingly, despite utilizing generative AI technology, the film intentionally sidestepped mechanical extravagance. Instead, it emphasized an analogue sensibility through elements like the ‘sense of touch,’ ‘light and texture,’ and a ‘slow, lingering gaze.’ This approach garnered immense audience empathy.

The film’s unique interpretation of AI technology—not as a cold, mechanical tool, but as a medium for conveying genuine emotion—received high praise from international judges and global audiences alike. It truly redefines what AI in art can be!

Jiyoon’s Take: As a Hidden Gem Traveler, I’m always thrilled to see unexpected collaborations create something extraordinary. This project at Goobne Playtown perfectly embodies that spirit – transforming a brand space into a launchpad for global art. It’s a testament to the power of blending tradition with cutting-edge tech, proving that art can bloom in the most surprising corners of our urban landscape. Who knew a chicken brand could be such a cultural incubator?

Lee Yeon-jae shared her gratitude, stating, “While ‘Wings of Love’ started as a project for the MOU class with Goobne Chicken, the experience of having my work meet real audiences gave me great motivation and confidence. The on-site feedback I received at Goobne Playtown, which served as the stage for its initial public showing, played a huge role in leading to awards at international film festivals.” It truly highlights the importance of real-world exposure for young artists!

Professor Park Hyun-joo from Hongik University’s College of Fine Arts, Visual Design Department, who guided the students, reflected on the collaboration: “At a time when generative AI technology was at the center of intense debate, Goobne Chicken believed in the potential of our students and hosted the film festival. Thanks to that, students gained the additional experience of having their work publicly showcased and disseminated beyond classroom assignments, and this screening became the starting point for their global debut.” What an incredible Sunbae!

Speaking of Goobne Playtown, this success isn’t just a one-off. Goobne Chicken plans to expand this innovative space into an open platform for collaborating with young creators. Their vision is to build a vibrant creative ecosystem where exhibitions, screenings, and showcases rotate, actively supporting more young artists in their global journeys. This commitment to nurturing emerging talent truly sets them apart.

A representative from G&Food emphasized the significance of this achievement: “This accomplishment is profoundly meaningful as it confirms that a brand space can evolve into a cultural platform for discovering and fostering young creators. We will continue to contribute to the future growth of K-content through diverse ESG activities that champion the dreams and passion of young artists.”

This collaboration between a beloved K-chicken brand and a leading art university proves that K-culture’s innovation knows no bounds. We at Hello Korea are incredibly excited to see what other hidden gems emerge from such forward-thinking partnerships! Keep an eye out, Global K-Fans, because the future of K-content is bright and deliciously unexpected!
