A Masterclass in Visual Storytelling: The Humint Universe

‘Humint’ plunges audiences into the chilling, secretive world of Vladivostok, where truth and deception are buried beneath icy waters. The story unfolds as characters with vastly different agendas clash, creating a taut atmosphere ripe with suspense and visual intrigue. Set to premiere on February 11th, just in time for the Lunar New Year holiday, this film is designed to offer a multifaceted entertainment experience.

Electrifying Chemistry: Park Jung-min & Shin Se-kyung’s Melodrama

Park Jung-min, portraying Park Geon, a North Korean State Security Department agent, revealed his character’s singular focus: Shin Se-kyung’s character, Sunhwa. He shared, “From the very beginning of the film, Park Geon’s sole purpose revolved around Sunhwa. With Shin Se-kyung playing her, I found myself constantly immersed in that emotion during filming, deeply contemplating how to portray that devotion.” He expressed profound gratitude, adding, “It was incredibly fortunate that Shin Se-kyung, whom I met for the first time on this set, opened her heart to us so quickly. It allowed us to feel comfortable, engage in deeper discussions about the project, and rely heavily on each other. It’s a miracle she played Sunhwa.”

Shin Se-kyung, who embodies Chae Sunhwa, expressed her excitement for a distinctly different type of melodrama. “This role had a completely different texture from my previous romantic endeavors, which made me incredibly excited. Knowing I would be working alongside Park Jung-min only amplified that anticipation, and I recall genuinely enjoying every moment of filming.”

The Unbreakable Bromance: Jo In-sung & Park Jung-min’s Dynamic Duo

The original melodrama maestro, Jo In-sung, takes on the role of Agent Jo, a National Intelligence Service officer, showcasing a compelling bromance with Park Jung-min. “We first worked together on ‘The King’ when Park Jung-min was younger, and I’ve always supported him,” Jo In-sung shared with warmth. “There’s a deep, intrinsic closeness when I act with him. It feels natural and comfortable, allowing us to perform without any awkwardness.”

Park Jung-min reciprocated this sentiment, detailing his reliance on Jo In-sung. “Jo In-sung has always taken great care of me, whether it was during ‘Smugglers’ or ‘Humint.’ He’s a senior from whom I’ve learned so much. That profound bond naturally created a comfortable atmosphere, making the experience smooth. This is our third project together, and while I used to either be beaten by him or attacked him from behind, now we confront each other head-on. It feels like things have truly come full circle!”

Discussing their action sequences, Park Jung-min emphasized the visual poetry of working with Jo In-sung. “Action scenes are incredibly dangerous; one wrong thought, and you can get hurt. But since my senior is such a master of action, I felt protected throughout. Plus, Jo In-sung has such long limbs, and isn’t just looking at him a treat? I really tried my best to match his dynamic presence.” The playful moment continued when Jo In-sung quipped, “Is that a confession?” to which Park Jung-min charmingly responded, “I like you!” He elaborated, “Because just gazing at him was such a pleasure, I worked tirelessly to match his awe-inspiring aura and follow his lead in every cut, sparing no effort.”

Director Ryoo Seung-wan’s Cinematic Vision

Director Ryoo Seung-wan, with a lighthearted tone, mentioned the friendly camaraderie among directors releasing films during the Lunar New Year period, including Jang Hang-jun and Kim Tae-yong. He playfully remarked that with such a long holiday, he couldn’t possibly ask audiences to watch only ‘Humint,’ highlighting the vibrant cinematic landscape this season offers.

The palpable connection between Jo In-sung and Park Jung-min, combined with the intriguing aesthetic of ‘Humint’, promises a truly captivating cinematic experience. Their visual synergy alone is enough to draw in audiences, setting the stage for a compelling narrative that fans will undoubtedly adore.
