K-Drama Queens are BACK! 👑🔥 Top Writers & New Talent Dominating 2026’s Hottest Lineup!

Get ready, K-drama fans! While recent years have seen a surge in webtoon adaptations and remakes, 2026 is officially reclaiming its throne as the “Year of the Screenwriter.” We’re talking about an unparalleled wave of original scripts hitting our screens, from the highly anticipated comebacks of industry legends to groundbreaking debuts by fresh new voices. Hello Korea is here to break down everything you need to know about the powerhouse writers set to redefine your binge-watching schedule!

Kicking off this stellar lineup are the much-awaited returns of our favorite “named” writers, starting this very month. First up, the iconic duo known as the Hong Sisters (Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran) are making a grand return to Netflix on January 16 with their latest creation, ‘Is Love Interpretable?’. Known for their incredible fan-favorite hits like ‘Master’s Sun’ (2013), ‘Hotel Del Luna’ (2019), and ‘Alchemy of Souls’ (2022), their new romantic comedy stars Kim Seon-ho as a multilingual interpreter, Joo Ho-jin, whose life gets tangled with global top star Cha Moo-hee, played by the stunning Go Yoon-jung. Prepare for unpredictable romance and witty banter!

Speaking of legendary returns, veteran writers Noh Hee-kyung and Park Hae-young are also gearing up to drop their next masterpieces. While genre-specific dramas have dominated the scene, their comeback signals a much-anticipated return to traditional, humanism-driven storytelling. Noh Hee-kyung, the brilliant mind behind critically acclaimed works like ‘Dear My Friends’ (2016) and ‘Our Blues’ (2022), is set to unveil the Netflix series ‘Slowly, Intensely’. This drama transports viewers to the vibrant, tumultuous Korean entertainment industry of the 1960s to 1980s, already garnering immense buzz with a star-studded cast including Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo.

Meanwhile, Park Hae-young, celebrated for her profound narratives in ‘My Mister’ (2018) and ‘My Liberation Notes’ (2022), will be showcasing her new drama, ‘Everyone is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness’. This project delves into the intricate world of the Korean film industry. While exact broadcast dates for both Noh and Park’s works are yet to be announced, they are firmly slated for this year’s schedule.

But it’s not just the familiar faces making waves; 2026 is also a launching pad for exciting new talent. We’re thrilled to introduce you to the debut works of several promising screenwriters:

  • ✍️ Novelist Oh Han-ki, who made his literary debut in 2012, is making his transition to the small screen with ‘How to Become a Building Owner in Korea.’ Starring Ha Jung-woo and Im Soo-jung, this drama follows a livelihood-focused building owner who gets involved in crime to protect their family and property.
  • 🗓️ Coming this April, Yoo Ah-in (the writer, not the actor!) presents his debut work, ’21st Century Grand Princess,’ starring powerhouse IU and the currently red-hot Byeon Woo-seok. This drama is a highly anticipated script contest winner.

Of course, the reign of One Source Multi-Use (OSMU) dramas continues strong in 2026. Beloved webtoons and webnovels are still finding their way to live-action glory:

  • 🖼️ Disney+’s ‘Bewitched’ stars Suzy and Kim Seon-ho in a mysterious tale set in 1935 Gyeongseong, where a painter is commissioned to create a portrait of an enigmatic woman.
  • ⚖️ Netflix brings us ‘True Education,’ starring Kim Mu-yeol and Lee Sung-min, focusing on a new agency established to protect collapsing teacher’s rights in Korea.
  • 🏰 And for fantasy lovers, Disney+ offers ‘Remarried Empress,’ a grand fantasy saga set in the fictional Dongdae Empire, led by Shin Min-ah and Joo Ji-hoon.

This year’s K-drama landscape is truly a testament to the power of original storytelling, proving that a compelling script remains the heart of a global hit. We are absolutely buzzing with excitement for the diverse narratives these brilliant minds will bring to our screens.
